Many thanks to all who answered my query; I now have a working sound
setup. After much headscratching I have also managed to get my
HP LJ4L to to print it's output each line under the previous one...
Next to kppp, which get through the initial login, password and
protocol then terminates with an error (the ppd daemon died unexexpectedly).
I am using Demon Internet, and have obviously set something wrong.
