This is an up date to my previous post.

First I would like to thank everybody for there help and suggestions.

This is what I found. After much chasing of my tail I went into YaST
and removed Samba, as well as a bunch of other mail programs that I was
not using and anything which I thought I did not need. I then
reinstalled Samba, rebooted the system and smbd -D and nmbd -D now
worked all the time. I still was not happy, as I wanted to know why
before it did not work.

The default smb.conf file worked and seemed stable. After a day I
started to change one area at a time and this is when I found my problem
I think. In smb.conf there is a line which says,

"Please uncomment the following entry and replace the ip number and
netmask with the correct numbers for your ethernet interface......"

If I do this, then nmbd -D stops working. Evry time

This is what I have found and I hope it helps someone. Drop me a note
if you are reading this and have the same problem as my original post
and this helps you.

Best Regards

Bryn Joynes
