This is strange, because I have never had mouse probs, and I do run 2.2.3 and
gpm with no ill effects. Below are some file sections dealing with your prob.
See if yours looks similar:
from XF86Config:
Section "Pointer"
Protocol "PS/2"
Device "/dev/mouse" # smlinked to /dev/psaux
Emulate3Timeout 50
Resolution 100
Buttons 3
Emulate3Buttons
EndSection
-------------
-------------
from rc.config:
#
# Which device is the mouse ? (e.g. "/dev/ttyS0")
#
MOUSE="/dev/psaux"
-------------
-------------
during kernel (2.2.3) compile I just select the device:
Character devices --->
[*] Mouse Support (not serial mice)
Mice --->
[*] PS2 mouse (aka "auxiliary device") support
-------------
-------------
dmesg reveals:
Detected PS/2 Mouse Port.
-------------
-------------
I can't think of any other files associated, offhand. If you can think of any,
let me know and I will send those particulars. I do, however, use "xf86config"
instead of "SaX", as I am not really fond of NOT having manual control. I use
"Yast" to configure gpm, and so far, it has worked flawlessly.
