After you compile, copy the System.Map from /usr/src/linux
to /boot.
Copy /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzIage to /boot/vmlinuz
Then run lilo, and you should see "added linux" or whatever
you named it. If lilo fails, edit your /etc/lilo.conf
to give the right names.
In my /boot I keep System.Map036, System.map224, vmlinuz036,
and vmlinuz224. That way I can rename System.map and vmlinuz
to switch kernels if I want.
Also remember to do a make modules and make modules_install.
