The only trick I've heard of, to make X start faster
is to remove resoltions that you don't use.
If you only need 1024x768, you don't need 
800x600, nor 640x480 listed. This greatly
speeds up X starting by skipping testing on
unused resolutions.

I don't know a thing about KDE, sorry.
