I own a couple of movies, but I've more or less held off on purchasing
and sort of player because the lack of commitment from the big players.
So far my take on this is that the likes of Sony and Panasonic to name
but two have there own technology. I believe Philips may, as well. There
is a great deal of money to be made and Sony, I'm sure, does not want to
be paying another royalty to someone like Philips, who owns the patents
on the cassette.
Hi-Val brought a recordable DVD player last year, I believe; I'd bet
that the drives are Panasonic.
Personally, I'm looking forward to the more mundane application of
popping "Conspiracy Theory" into my Linux box and settling down to a
good pizza on some Friday winter's evening. I might add I would like the
storage for the digital audio/video I will be putting together, as well.
Perhaps it is time to knock at the doors of the likes of Creative Labs
for proper LInux support?
Regards,
Bob
