The Intel Etherexpress pro 10/100 (it's what I use) can do full duplex and works
just fine for workstations, or for servers in small networks. If you are
expecting heavier server use there is a special beefed-up version for servers -
it's probably got some RISC processor on it. Moreover, Intel's technical support
department are very helpful and don't turn a hair when you tell them you are
running Linux. A pleasant surprise after Microsoft...
