Could somebody be kind enough to explain what's libc5 and glibc and why some
distributions/apps use one over the other?

I assume its the main run-time library for Linux but I am sure there are
other people like me who are new to OSS who would like to better their
understanding...especially if there is a good chance we'll run into this
problem ourselves sooner or later.

Thanks,
Jim
