You don't need to get a new SCSI card, although I've had good experience
with Buslogic myself. Nonetheless, I am running virtually the same setup
as you:
Adaptec 2940UW
Seagate 9.1 UW, (2) IBM 4.3 UW
Zip, Jaz, CDROM drives on the 50 pin
and my SCSI works fine. The Seagates do seem to make a lot of noise when
they reset the heads, so that's normal. All the other stuff you mentioned
is not. Tell me what settings you used for the SCSI card in your kernel
config and we'll figure this thing out. Also send your settings from the
SCSI BIOS itself (press Ctrl-A to get a menu at boot time). I'm sure we
can get it to work alright.
