Not necessarily.  ISP's sometimes have watchdog programs that look for
connections that haven't had activity for a certain length of time.  It
will automatically hang up on those 'idle' connections, even if you
don't consider yourself idling.  ISP's that "overbook their modem ports
use their watchdog alot.  I recall reading about a setting somewhere
that causes your pppd to send out a ping every so often, just to keep
the dogs away, but I can't recall where it is at right now.  Maybe
another reader remembers.
