It's not a must. But keep in mind that 2.0.37 (coming within
the next ten days) will be the last kernel of the 2.0 series.
2.2 is the present. 2.3/4 the future and bleeding edge.

The general kernel is ok. I have never used any kind of special
kernels with suse.
