>From my own experience and from reading mailing lists (especially
gnome-list) I can say that WRT gnome mixing different things is
always bad. To avoid unnecessary problems one should think carefully
and the decide to only use
suse rpms
or redhat rpms ...
or .tar.gz sources
or CVS sources.
Ioriginally had partof the gnome stuff from the suse CD installed.
Then I began to compile additional Packages my self. It was a mess.
Only after removing _everything_ everything went fine.
( If you compile everything yourself, it's you who tells
make where to install what.)
The problem is simply and always that different distros follow
different file hierarchy policies.
