You define your preferred Window Manager by setting the environment
variable WINDOWMANAGER. So if you want to start WindowMaker, put the
following in ~/.bashrc:
export WINDOWMANAGER=/usr/X11R6/bin/wmaker
Before running X, you need to run wmaker.inst. Don't let the script modify
your .xinitrc, setting WINDOWMANAGER is all you need. Now "startx" should
run WindowMaker...
