Hi Konstantin,

the usability (on ANY system) pretty much depends on the way you
talk to the jukebox.

The ones that I know have a SCSI-ID for the changer (the controller
that handles the changer mechanism) and one (or more) SCSI-ID(s)
for the drive(s) in the jukebox.

I am sure, you can easily talk to the drive(s) in the jukebox by
loading the appropriate driver for the specific medium (i.e. MO,
WORM, or tape, which you should be ablo to talk to in the normal
manner you talk to ANY tape on your system, etc.) though I don't
know (yet) of any WORM driver for Suse.

For the changer, you surely need a (some kind of) specific driver
or software product (such as backup-software) that support this
specific changer-mechanism. For example, I once had to put an
EXABYTE Tape jukebox onto an AIX-system and this was pretty easy
once I found out, that the BACKUP-software itself provided the
driver for the changer.

I have a changer as well but not (yet, as so much of my hardware)
attached to Suse-Linux. When I was running Solaris in the older
days, I found out that there are companies that develop and sell
drivers for specific changers. This was true for a MO
(Magnto-optical) disk-changer manufactured by HP.

So, since I got the SSA-Array running on SuSE-Linux and this is a
somewhat more exotic device than a 'changer' (but has a LUN
(Logical Unit Number that can split a SCSI-ID into 8 subdevices) ,
for each drive and is, in that way, easy to manage), I am sure,
there IS support for chagers in Linuxland somewhere.

Not a lot of information, but hopefully a little useful.

Matthias
