I've had success suspending both to disk and to ram an hp nx7400 
notebook with sata disk.
Suspend to ram works using a kernel which has ahci PM support patched 
(2.6.19-rc5 kernel for example).
When I suspended the machine, after resume hard drive didn't worked.
Today I've found that the hard drive locking password was the root cause 
to all the problems (the infamous Drivelock feature). The bios locked 
the drive, and nobody unlocked it (perhaps in windows something unlock 
it after suspend).
Now the only glitch is that backlight is off after suspend to ram. If I 
press some times the two keys for brightness the light returns. All the 
4 methods to restore video (all acpi_sleep parameter, vbetool post, 
vbetool save) cause the machine to hang after resume.

Please write on the site that drivelock prevents from a successful 
resume from suspend to ram.

Please tell me what technical information I must give to you to add my 
machine to whitelist.
