Maybe we should add SNAPSHOT_WITH_FLAGS (uint)
                    RESTORE_WITH_FLAGS (uint)

with one of those flags being USE_PLATFORM_MODE? We may need more
flags in future...

...or maybe have ioctl(fd, USE_PLATFORM_MODE)?
