Hello ST Friends,

Not sure if this petition from our friends at the Workers Center has been
posted to this list yet... Please read through and sign if you believe
this will be important leverage point for the county to spread its
conviction on the importance of paying a living wage.

I am writing you now, either because you already signed a petition (text
below), or I think that you *would* be interested. If you would consider
either forwarding the electronic version of the petition, with a personal
note to your friends/relatives, etc., which can be found at
http://afl.salsalabs.com/o/4023/c/200/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=6448
*or*
spreading hard copies (let me know if you'd like us to send you some hard
copies, or send a Word Document of the petition), please do so, and let
know!

We're aiming to get thousands and thousands of signatures *from Tompkins
County residents* by mid-summer, so any help you can give on this would be
greatly appreciated!

In solidarity
Pete

The text of the petition is as follows:

Petition in Support of a Living Wage for *All* Tompkins County Contracted
Workers and Workers Employed by Businesses that Receive Economic or
Community Development Assistance!

*The Tompkins County Workers’ Center *is working to ensure that all
businesses and organizations that contract with Tompkins County, or receive
economic or community development assistance, are required to pay all of
their workers at least a Living Wage, as defined and updated by
Alternatives Federal Credit Union every two years.

By signing below, I attest to my strongly held belief that ALL workers
employed by businesses sub-contracting with Tompkins County must receive at
least a Living Wage. I affirm my willingness to pay a small increase in
County taxes to subsidize local nonprofit agencies that truly cannot afford
to pay all of their workers at least a Living Wage, if necessary.

I also attest to my strongly held belief that all recipients of County
economic development assistance and/or community development assistance
should be *required* to pay their workers at least a Living Wage.

If you take care of this moment, you will take care of all time.
