Call for Entries - Celebrate ReUse!
Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA), Ithaca, NY
August 2, 2013 – August 30, 2013
Curated by Finger Lakes ReUse

What happens when you take discarded materials destined for the landfill
and add your imagination, vision, and talent? The results may be whimsical
or practical, but always decidedly, delightfully different and unexpected.
Finger Lakes ReUse is taking that concept of reinvention and reimagination
to a whole new level this summer with Celebrate ReUse!, an art exhibit and
community celebration of reuse.

As a response to ever-filling landfills, overproduction, and diminishing
natural resources, Celebrate ReUse! is meant to inspire visual artists and
community members to continue shifting the paradigm and take reuse to a new
level. Creative reuse enlightens and sparks imagination, demonstrating that
artistic creativity and learning can take place anywhere and everywhere—and
with all manner of materials—and that “junk” has value for those who can
see meaning and aesthetics beyond the discarding of things.

Submitted work must incorporate materials that would otherwise be thrown
away. Pieces may be abstract or representational, experimental or
traditional in technique. Preference will be given to work that is created
by using at least 75% reclaimed/repurposed/salvaged materials. Pieces may
be two or three-dimensional, must fit within a standard doorway, and must
be completed at the time of entry submission.

Finger Lakes ReUse will host a Gallery Night at the Community School of
Music and Arts (CSMA) at 330 E. State St. on August 2, 2013 to showcase the
artwork chosen for Creative ReUse! and will serve light refreshments. All
ages are welcome to attend.

How to submit artwork:
* Up to three (3) works may be entered per artist. Submit digital images or
contact us if you have no way to create a digital image of your work. If
pieces are three-dimensional, multiple images may be sent (up to 3 photos
per piece). Digital submissions may be sent as image files on CD or as
email attachments, in jpg or gif format. Please do not send website links.
Original works should not be submitted.
* Please include your full name, address, phone number and email address
and the title, media, dimensions, and price of each work submitted. CSMA
will retain a 20% commission on sales.
* Send entry fee of $25 (for up to three works), checks payable to Finger
Lakes ReUse. Entry fee will help cover costs for the gallery space and the
reception, and is non-waivable and non-refundable. Fees must be received by
Finger Lakes ReUse before submissions will be considered.
* Submissions must be received by mail, in person, or electronically by
9:00AM on July 15, 2013.
