In the car segment Toyota brand/models won the most AMES Awards (nine), Honda was second (six), Ford placed third (five), General Motors was fourth (four) and DaimlerChrysler fifth (three). In the light truck segment, General Motors brand/models garnered the most awards (six), Ford was second (four), Toyota third (two) and seven manufacturers tied for fifth (one). The Toyota Prius, a hybird gasoline electric car, won an AMES "Best" Award in the subcompact class. The Toyota RAV4 was "BEST" in the compact SUV category.
