Keith is right, only 98% acid will split the cellulose into it's monomeres, i.e. sugars. Cellulose is nature's plastic, and pretty tightly woven. It's the same as with acid splitting of waste oil, it has to be quite concentrated. As for sulphuric acid, it is made in special lead chambers, to prevent corrosion of the equipment, it's a multi-stage, different temp in each chamber - process. Not doable @ home.
