Methyl(wood) alcohol and looking into a hot radiator with the cap off was a no no. The vapors would get your eyes I was told. Kirk

You might have to use quite a lot though to get the overall freezing point down low enough. Also glycerine's been suggested as an anti-freeze. But I guess it has to be purified first.
