Our group has begun to collect WVO from local
restaurants and ran into the problem of the waste oil
collector (who was getting paid to haul WVO away)
threatening us that once the oil was in his container
it was his and we would be prosecuted if we "stole"
his oil. What an impotent threat! We merely had the
restaurants place the WVO back in the containers it
came in (5 gal plastic jugs) and place it next to the
trash. Our oil now! The WVO collector then apparently
made some threat to one of the restaurants which had a
wholly unintended response I am sure. The
restaurateur..who at that point was unsure as to
whether or not he could trust us to take all of his
oil and so had wanted to hedge his bets by continuing
to pay for WVO removal canceled his contract...and
notified every other restaurant in town that we were
hauling it away for free. Holy cow! Do we have oil
now! And the best thing is there is no investment in
equipment to collect or store the WVO. We simply stop
by end pick up the cubic jugs stacking them in the
back of a heavy duty pickup...which we have converted
to SVO. Since the plastic jugs are not rodent
proof...and I suspect will deteriorate in sunlight we
have begun advertising for 265 gal. fuel oil tanks for
more secure long term storage and are picking them up
for free. Recycling the jugs is becoming somewhat of a
problem though as our local recycler is complaining
about the volume. Of course they used to just go in
the trash.
