Hi all, I was reading something on the net about oleochemicals and had something about free fatty acids. it says when we try to make methyl ester with alot of free fatty acids, what happens is the free fatty acid reacts first with the sodium methoxide and form a soap. This soap forms an emulsion that retards the reaction of the triglycerides and the methanol. Has anyone tried putting the methanol first into the oil before adding the caustic soda flakes?
