You can use 100% biodiesel (methyl or ethyl esters) in any diesel motor without modification (though you may have to change rubber parts in older fuel systems). With ethanol in spark ignition engines it's not quite so simple - 100% ethanol use definitely requires engine modifications. There's quite a lot in the list archives about it, including current discussions. There is a point to E-diesel, the 15% ethanol proportion does clean up the emissions somewhat and the ethanol is at least a biofuel, but 100% biodiesel is surely a better answer.
