First, I wouldn't take too much notice of the Canakci/Van Gerpen study.

Better stick to Aleks's method.

Unless your oil is very unusual, you don't really need to know the 
FFA content for the acid-base method, but quite a few people (me 
included) think it's worth knowing anyway. See: "Basic titration"

Most of the high-FFA two-stage discussion was at the Biofuels-biz 
group, especially concerning Michael Allen's work with crude 
palm-oil. Do an archive search for "Allen" and follow the "hi ffa 
feed stocks" thread and associated threads. Very interesting.
