An important distinction.

:-) You could almost arrive at the best of all worlds simply by 
starting off with M$ licensing and practice and doing exactly the 
opposite. But only almost, eh? Best just ignore them altogether, not 
good for the mind.

It is a good comparison - local economy, distributed costs (work).

No, but the information can be, and is, so maybe it's not that 
different. But I don't think we want an organization, that's a word 
that makes homebrewers very nervous (though this discussion is about 
small-scale commercial producers, but still). We do need some 
guidelines or something.
