the good doctor is right about calcium oxide, from the process you were referring to I assumed that you were talking about mole sieve (putting it in a filter housing and running the material to be dried through it) the best and least expensive way to remove the water from wvo is still elavating the temperature to evaporate off all of the water. as far as the methanol, you are pretty much stuck with either chemical (eg: calcium oxide) or physical (eg: crystaline aluminosilicates (mole sieve) to dehydrate, toss up on cost, new or recycle. for small batches it is not very economically efficent to recycle your methanal. but to add to institutional knowledge in the area it is very doable in process.
