the items of interest. There are base amounts and then those are added to
the results of titration in order to determine the catalyst to methanol
quantities. Methanol is usually 2 liters to the 10 of WVO and then you add
the amount of catalyst into the methanol quanitiy and disolve it thoroughly
before adding it to your oil at 55C
(130F).
I have been making 80 liter batches and my oil titrates to a total of
5gr/liter so I disolve 400grams of NaOH in 16 liters of methanol and process
that at 55C for two hours, then settle overnight or so before removing the
glycerine layer and sending the BD to the wash tank for a few water baths.
Study the material at the link above and you will soon enough be making all
the quality fuel your little heart desires. It is not complicates although
it is complex and no step can be skipped. What I have described is the one
step "standard" method. The two step is for more advanced and experienced
brewers, so get into the single stage first and then once that you
understand the ins and outs of it you can opt to move on to the two step if
that is what you wish. NaOH or sodium hydroxide is the more common catalyst
used, however many people prefer KOH or potassium hydroxide instead as the
catalyst. The varying amounts are posted at the link.
