As for Thoreaux, not so sure about Walden Pond, but "On the Duty of
Civil Disobedience" would be pertinent.
Well about Walden Pond, I found there a very unique consciousness of
one who reads his surroundings to understand where he can fit in,
where the vegetablegarden will grow and how to invest and realize
gains in this particular surrounding in a responsible manner. In
order to do this he (H D TH) watches nature to such an extent that the
busy townspeople thought of him as a loafer, but in fact, he is
frugal, perhaps more so than the townspeople, who often spend their
meager funds on coffee. This way of consciousness driven
entrepreneurship does poorly on Wallstreet and I don't think this
will change. In fact I can think of a lot of bad things that happen
because of the Wall street driven consciousness, although Gandhi, and
my humble self would not agree with bringing it down by crashing
jetliners into it.
And I don't mean to imply that what we do (making BD) is merely a
token labor of love or merely a symbol of all those American values
Um... I don't want to quibble, but most of us here are not Americans,
and "American values" are not in very good standing in the world right
now.
I'm painfully aware that you are right. We are working to resolve a
worldwide situation and the US (government) is not part of the
solution (and has not been, lets see ...should I say here "ever" ? )
It is to be considered. But there are the uppities like myself
(perhaps) and that's whats great
I became a US citizen in 79 and once the brainwashing wore off, I
enjoyed it more. But never before have I found a more relevant forum,
or, any movement at all that has this kind of sense of purpose and
direction, and urgency. My respect to ALL of you who have created this
or contributed to it,
On the practical side, if one of you should encounter a document or what
have you, in the German language, I'd feel privileged if you asked me
to help out.
Best regards, Stephan
