filter it, especially if you've let it settle and decant from the
top, or at least from well above the bottom. (Our 200-litre drum
storage tank has a 3" standpipe in the outlet valve.) It's held that
all the gunge and particles and stuff drops out with the glyc
by-product layer anyway, and there's a lot to be said for that.
Anyway your motor already has filters, a particle filter in the tank
and the main fuel filter, and many people add a third cheap filter
upstream of the main filter, a good idea. Jeremy mentioned tractor
filters, they work well for this, if they're similar to the ones we
get here in Japan from Kubota or Yanmar.

I have seen fuel filters from 2 to 200 micron ratings.... no idea
about a coffee filter or a sock...
talcum powder is about 10 microns
standard table salt is at least 100 microns
beach sand is at least 200 microns.
That's useful, thanks.

How should I filter my bio diesel after washing and before I use
it? I am thinking that a paper coffee filter is over kill(not to
mention slow). Would a nylon stocking work?
