Hi Steve <snip>
>On the same train of thought, I am still looking into us making ethanol, for >its better cold point properties and renewable supply properties, but the >price of methanol by the truckload (indeed boatload) from methanex (Thanks >Keith for the links again) seems sure to settle that question. You're welcome. But don't abandon the ethanol idea, there could be several ways of doing it on a minor scale that might be worthwhile, and again outsourcing or cooperative deals could be the answer. I think cheap drying is still the stumbling block (needs to be anhydrous for ethyl esters, though not for fuel ethanol). I'd love to see some feedback on the drying methods we've posted in the Biofuels library. http://journeytoforever.org/biofuel_library.html Especially on the Mariller method using glycerine, if only we could find an easy/cheap way of purifying the glyc by-product from biod. Also using sulphur or castor-oil (Langley). We're still some way off from being able to test some of these methods ourselves, but we'll get there.
