Anglo American in GTL project discussions Anglo American, the South Africa-based coal and resource company, was reported to be in discussions over possible involvement in a proposed coal-to-oil project in Latrobe Valley, Australia. The $6 billion (AUD) plant, promoted by Australian Power & Energy Ltd (APEL), would produce 500 MW of power and convert brown coal into 52,600 barrels of diesel per day.
Carbon sequestration through pumping of exhaust gases underground would be used to control greenhouse gas emissions from the plant. A feasibility study to be conducted by APEL will determine the technology and economic issues raised by the proposed project. http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/03/20/1047749880818.html ------------------------ Yahoo!
