I had received several request for more information about our biomass projects. In the late 70's during one of our first "energy crisis" I entered into wind generation and solar panels and wood stoves. This was a small answer and one that as soon as people adjusted, the business quit. Now I see a longer term critical situation that is again creating an industry. For over 10 years I have assisted farm groups with bio-diesel projects, wind farms and any type of alternative energy. So much for my background...
I represent a producer group. We are building two bio-mass plants. One plant will use all types of fiber ie. wheat straw, milo stalks, corn stover, switchgrass etc. Thi first plant will generate 100,000 lbs of steam an hour which we have already sold on a 10 year contract. We will use 90,000 tons of biomass per year and the dollars will stay in our county, benefiting our farmers. Before, the money was going overseas to petro chemical industries. A major factor is the netural factor of carbon sequstration. So the environment benefits as well. The second plant will use cow manure. The location of the second plant produces 5,000,000 pounds of manure per DAY! For the steam needs, we will only use about 1,000,000 pounds of the manure, so we started combining biomass fiber and the manure into pellets ( no smell)... and we are building industrial "pellet stoves", for companies, schools, and industry, and then selling them the pellets. Thanks for your inquiry! If you have a web page or perhaps a news release that could tell us more about your work, that would be cool. Today's news brought more discussion from Mr. Greenspan about the looming Natural Gas Pricing problem for this coming winter, and the lack of a quick fix. I've been thinking about the last energy-pricing-crisis I lived through, which was two or three years ago in Southern California (and in which other Western States such as Washington suffered a direct effect). There was some mixture of hysteria and determination to fix things, and all manner of ideas were expressed, such as by Senators presenting their ideas on C-Span. If we are to see some repeat of that situation, but on a national scale, then we will see some hysteria, but hopefully we will also see some good attention brought to efforts such as yours, where folks look around for answers, and do find some in the information you and others are able to provide. I was talking to someone who had experience of the Early-70s Oil Crisis, and one thing they said is that, at least in such a situation, you have Americans thinking and talking more about where their energy comes from and what they can do to improve the energy situation. So hopefully we will see more thought and discussion in the coming months as to where our Energy comes from and how we can improve our sourcing and use of it. >We are working with the farms to produce bio-mass pellets....
