My greatest problem with them is that what is the case with all today's cars applies to them in greater measure: they are complete; they are technologically closed; they are completely opaque to technological engagement by the user. They are a lot like mobile phones: one big part. As such they thrive on a user culture that comprises the pure consumer, who is a passive observer, a member of the audience, a hotel guest, an owner of slaves, a pampered child.
And I don't think they will be able to survive the demise of their manufacturer. They require of me an attitude of complacency towards their manufacturers. I find offensive their claim that my complacency is ecologically necessary. I resist it; I contest it.
