Warming Impacts Bees
1] Insects are cold-blooded, so mites survive and spread more readily
with warmer temps, milder winters, parasitizing bees more effectively.
2] Pathogenic fungi likewise thrive with higher humidity and temp.
Humidity increases in general with a more active hydrological cycle
due to higher temp.
3] Temps in the NE USA and other latitudes away from tropics have in
general increased substantially more than has average global temp,
fundamentally because:
3a] Tropics are heat source relative to latitudes away from tropics;
temp increases less in tropics.
3b] Latitudes away from tropics are heat sinks; temp increases more.
4] Impacts on bees from pathogens that thrive with increasing temps
may be at least as significant as damage from pesticides.
