Tompkins County folks:
Please read the letter below and let me know if you can spare some time on
May 24, Thurs, at noon to hold a brief rally in front of Target in the
Pyramid Mall. If Walmart and Microsoft can remove products from their
shelves that contain PVC, what's with Target.
Please join us.
Thanks,
Tony Del Plato
Ithaca NY

 Hi Tony,

Momentum is building in the national campaign to phase out PVC plastic. On
May 24th, parents, health and environmental groups, and Target customers
will converge at Target stores nationwide calling on this retail giant to be
a good corporate citizen. We expect more from Target and it's time to phase
out this unnecessary and dangerous plastic and switch to safer and healthier
products.

*Can I count on you to join us on May 24th by delivering a letter to your
area Target store manager expressing concern about their sale of toxic PVC
products? Sign up here to get
involved.<http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=341263043&url_num=2&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.democracyinaction.org%2Fdia%2ForganizationsORG%2FCHEJ%2FsignUp.jsp%3Fkey%3D2140%26amp%3Bt%3DPVCsignup.dwt>
*This will send a strong message to Target that customers across the country
want safer, toxic-free products for their families. We can provide a sample
letter to hand-deliver, easy-to-follow instructions, and additional
supporting materials.

As Target continues to drag their feet, more and more companies are
switching to safer products. Last week, both Wal-Mart and
Apple<http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=341263043&url_num=3&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.greenmyapple.org>announced
major new policies to phase out PVC in baby bibs, children's
products, and computers. The Wal-Mart announcement came after testing by the
Center for Environmental Health found high levels of lead in PVC baby bibs
sold at
Wal-Mart.<http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=341263043&url_num=4&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cehca.org%2Fmaking-news%2F>The
New York and Illinois Attorney Generals announced Wal-Mart will stop
selling PVC baby bibs and has committed to support the development of an
industry standard to eliminate PVC from all products intended for use by
children. This is a major victory in the campaign to phase out PVC.

*Will you join us in challenging Target to "meet and beat" Wal-Mart's
commitment to phase out PVC in consumer products and packaging? Sign up to
deliver a letter to your Target store manager on May 24th.

Together we can build a toxic-free future.

Sincerely,

Lois Gibbs, Executive Director
