Barbara Blanchard / Guest Column
Two recent Journal letter writers urged readers to support renewable
energy while taking advantage of NYSEG's open enrollment Voice Your
Choice program. This is a great idea, but another option that neither
writer mentioned is one offered through the Municipal Electric and Gas
Alliance (MEGA). The alliance is a not-for-profit, community-based
local development corporation whose primary purpose is to achieve the
best terms and the most competitive rates for electricity and natural
gas for its members. Our participants saved more than $4 million since
the program's inception in 1998 through March 2007, and $2.7 million
from April 2005 to April 2006 in electricity costs alone!
