Dear Friends--And once we drop over the edge into the future energy descent
many of us are gonna be lucky to be able to heat enough hot water at once
to make a cup of tea let alone take a long hot shower every
day. Alternative technology: Holes punched in the bottom of a 5-gallon
bucket (a big nail works well) suspended from a tree limb with a rope (or
hook in the ceiling if you have 10-1/2 foot ceilings like I do above my
existing tub); you have to heat the water in another bucket first by
letting it set in sun for a few hours, or on top of the wood stove, if
there is any wood left in your neighborhood.

No offense to Tony or anyone else, but we are going to all have to hang
together and figure out as much of this stuff as we can, together, as we go
along. Have a wonderful day. Tom

P.S.: My most recent reading. Not new, but very apropos to some aspects
of this conversation.

"Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present
without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own
needs."

MY NOTE: Sustainable development does not mean "sustainable growth" as
growth per se is not sustainable. And the term "sustainable" has to mean
"for a very long time" (A. Bartlett).
