i don't want to change the subject away from water consumption and
cleanliness- the conversation is very interesting- but thought of
another practical thing that people could do every day to reduce
consumption. don't use disposable storage at home. this one is very
simple, i think, to most people on this list, but really requires
some practice, information, and often assistance.

for example, i don't have glass storage for all of my leftovers as
i'd like. it costs way too much. we slowly moved our pantry off of
plastic and are mostly pleased with the results (grain moths STILL
get in- sometimes even with seals!). i often forget my bags when i
go shopping with my three young children- sometimes it's just enough
to get out the door. i try putting them back in the car when i'm
done, but still, sometimes forget. i go through spurts of
remembering to bring my own plate to famers' market for lunch, but
usually remember for picnics or potlucks.

sandwiches don't need to be in plastic baggies- this is a hard one
for many people but i don't entirely understand why. maybe it's just
exposure to the idea that sandwich containers are way less expensive
and more practical.

though i must admit it's hard to resist all that colored glad plastic
wrap they sell. i find leftovers taste better when viewed through
pink plastic. (smile)
