Auto-City or Eco-City?
South Hill School, Tuesday, March 25th, 7:00-9:00 PM

Robert Morache, chair of Connect Ithaca, will give a PowerPoint presentation
in the South Hill Elementary School Cafeteria, Tuesday, March 25th,
7:00-9:00 PM. The presentation will consider how our un-wavering accommodation
of the
automobile as the primary means of urban mobility has become a limit to
Ithaca's growth and development, and is eroding urban quality of life. The
presentation will offer an alternative vision of urban mobility and real
estate
development which sheds light on the pivotal role that re-thinking
transportation inside and outside the city can play in moving Ithaca towards a
more
environmentally sustainable, economically competitive and socially vibrant
future.
The presentation will also consider the urgency with which our community
needs to re-arrange its transportation priorities, in order to cope with
escalating energy costs, the peaking of world oil production and global
climate
change.

An open discussion will follow.

Robert Morache is an Ithaca resident, architectural and green building
design consultant, and has taught design at Syracuse University. He is chair
of
Connect Ithaca, a group committed to forwarding fresh thinking about
transportation and urban design.
