LAST CHANCE TO MAKE A CAROLINE BAG ~ SEW-IN APRIL 5
As a community, we have sewn nearly 600 reusable bags for Energy Independent
Caroline, and these unique, handmade bags keep streaming in! Perhaps even more
amazing than the response to this collaborative green project has been the
beauty of the bags, which are made from all reused or donated material. The
deadline for making the bags has been extended by a week, and SewGreen is
holding one more CAROLINE BAG SEW-IN, SATURDAY, APRIL 5, NOON TO 6 PM, at the
SewGreen Studio at Tuff Soul, 516 West State Street, Ithaca. All are welcome.
Bring your own machine or use one of ours. Materials provided. Contact Wendy
[EMAIL PROTECTED], 607-277-7611, to pin down a shift.

LIGHTEN UP CAROLINE DISTRIBUTION DAY
Students from Cornell and Ithaca College will join community volunteers to
distribute to every household in the town of Caroline, NY a compact fluorescent
light bulb. The bulb and a packet of literature on sustainable living will be
placed inside a reusable tote bag (many supplied by SewGreen). The project has
been dubbed Lighten Up Caroline. Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] to volunteer for
distribution day, April 19.

GIRLS GROWING UP GREEN
The theme for this year's Sister2Sister, an annual event for middle school
girls, is "Girls Growing Up Green," and the event has permanently adopted
sustainable practices, such as aiming for zero waste and serving local foods.
Sister2Sister2008 happens this Saturday, March 29, at the Women's Community
Building. Scientist/author Sandra Steingraber will give the opening talk, and
throughout the day, the girls will measure their own environmental footprints,
refashion t-shirts with SewGreen, and experience new ways to move and stand
tall. The day includes a "Love Your Body" fair, and many opportunities for
girls to get to know each other and their high school mentors. It's not too
late to register. Call 607-280-4380, or email [EMAIL PROTECTED]

GREEN T GALLERY SHOW AT CSMA
SewGreen is sponsoring a Green T gallery exhibit April 2 - 13 in the main
gallery at the Community School of Music & Arts, 330 East State Street, Ithaca.
The show will feature many of the winning designs from the 2008 Green T Reuse
Design Contest, as well as other sustainable sewing, reuse, and ecofashion
exhibits. The gallery is open 10 am to 8 pm, Monday through Friday. The opening
reception is 5 to 8 pm, Friday, April 4, which is gallery night in downtown
Ithaca.

PROM GOWN EXCHANGE, ITHACA MALL, APRIL 4, 5
A Formal and Prom Gown Exchange, sponsored by the Tompkins County recycling
program, is being held at the Ithaca (formerly Pyramid) Mall. Students and
residents can donate dresses and accessories in advance and receive a ticket to
select a different dress at the exchange. The dress exchange will be located
near the food court Friday, April 4, from 3 to 8 pm, and Saturday, April 5,
from 11 am to 4 pm. Dresses may be dropped off at the Ithaca Mall customer
service desk, or at schools that are participating. For more information,

BUSINESS PANEL: HOW EASY IS IT TO BE GREEN?
SewGreen is sponsoring a panel discussion and green business networking
reception at the Community School of Music and Art, 6 - 8 pm, Tuesday April 8.
Local green retailers from Home Green Home, Mama Goose, Petrune, and Tuff Soul
will talk about the principles, challenges, and rewards of blending
sustainability and business. A green entrepreneur networking reception, open to
all, starts at 6 pm, followed by the panel at 7 pm. Free.

BLATANT ADVERTISING: Sustainability and business can blend very well; for
example, the not-for-profit program, SewGreen, occupies space in the
sustainable style store, Tuff Soul. SewGreen's success at this location depends
on Tuff Soul's success as a local green business. Check out how fashionable
(and sustainable) vintage and not-new can be. And once you've worn organic
denim jeans, there's no going back. Send an e-mail reply to this newsletter for
a Tuff Soul 20-percent-off coupon.
