Museum of the Earth is actually doing an Earth weekend 4/18-20 just before  
Earth Day. Here are the Friday and Sunday highlights and hopefully links to the 
 whole event. The Friday night talk seems to be the one of which Margaret  
spoke though it's on the 18th.

Earth  Day presentation 

The  Museum of the Earth is celebrating Earth Day, which is April 22, with a 
lecture  beginning at 6:30 p.m. April 18 by Dr. Tom Lovejoy entitled “Climate 
Change:  Prospects for Nature.” Lovejoy is nationally recognized as the 
environmental  advocate and founder of the public television series “Nature,” 
and 
he has also  served on science and environmental councils and committees under 
the Reagan,  Bush and Clinton administrations.

a reception  and lecture. Dr. Lovejoy has a distinguished background in 
Environmental  advocacy and the evening promises to be truly delightful and 
informative. Dr.  Lovejoy is currently president of The Heinz Center, a 
nonprofit, 
nonpartisan  institution dedicated to improving the scientific and economic 
foundation for  environmental policy through multisectoral collaboration. 
Before 
assuming  leadership at the Heinz Center, he was the World Bank’s Chief 
Biodiversity  Advisor and Lead Specialist for Environment for Latin America and 
the 
Caribbean  and Senior Advisor to the President of the United Nations 
Foundation. Dr.  Lovejoy has been Assistant Secretary and Counselor to the 
Secretary at 
the  Smithsonian Institution, Science Advisor to the Secretary of the 
Interior, and  Executive Vice President of the World Wildlife Fund–U.S. He is 
also the 
founder  of the public television series Nature and served on science and 
environmental  councils or committees under the Reagan, Bush, and Clinton 
administrations. He  received his B. S. and Ph.D. (biology) degrees from Yale  
University.

a lead up to Earth Day, Museum of the Earth will be showing 6 episodes of the  
Discovery Channel’s Planet Earth. Each week, local scientists will host the  
week’s episode and share pertinent information about their current research.
