I was recently contacted by "Food and Water Watch", a Washington-based non
profit looking for partners (organizations and individuals) in Tompkins
county with particular interest in water issues. They are looking for folks
willing to meet with local legislators to show our support for important new
legislation (from Congressman Earl Blumenauer, Oregon) which would create a
Water Trust Fund -- federally designated monies that states could apply for
to improve their water infrastructure.

This legislation seems to me really important -- because water is becoming
an ever more fragile and rare resource; because water infrastructure all
over the country is in sore need of repair; because federal and state
funding for this has dried up severely in the last decade; and because, as
Ithacans preparing to repair our own water treatment infrastructure, this
issue is particularly timely.

I have signed on to arrange and attend an August meeting with local
legislator Michael Arcuri (whose support is important for passing this
legislation, though he is not of our district specifically).

If you or your organization are interested in attending this meeting (date
TBA), or just adding your name to the effort, please let me know.
