SEWGREEN NEEDS A REUSE FACILITY

SewGreen's efforts to reuse and redistribute materials and keep them from the
landfill are hampered by the lack of a facility for sorting. Here's what we
need:

The not-for-profit group, SewGreen, is looking for donated or very inexpensive
space in the Ithaca urban area for its textile reuse program. SewGreen accepts
unwanted but usable fabric, yarn, sewing equipment, and sewing machines for
redistribution and reuse. We need a clean, dry space of at least 600 square
feet for intake, sorting, and storage of textiles and other materials. The
space needs to be well-lit and not subject to extremes in temperature or
humidity. It should be accessible from street level (direct entry or elevator),
with a loading zone for vehicles.

The space would be accessed by trained and supervised volunteers who would take
in materials by appointment, sort the materials for redistribution, and place
stored materials on portable shelves and in large plastic bins. If appropriate
and allowable, SewGreen would also like to use the space for limited resale
hours. (The textile reuse operation is very similar to the model used by the
Tompkins County library booksale.)

SewGreen is a program of Social Ventures, an Ithaca-based 501(c)3. We have
insurance coverage for the contents of any facility in which we operate. We are
an established and responsible program that, in addition to reuse, does
education and outreach through low-cost community sewing classes, events, and
reuse workshops in schools. Our website is www.sew-green.org. The coordinator
is Wendy Skinner, 607-277-7611, [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If you have any leads or ideas, please let us know. Thanks very much.
