Hello there Wendy,

I think I found a lovely young candidate for you :) Her name is Shanique Lee
and she is from Trumansburg. She has some risk factors in her home life but
is a brilliant, creative, joyful, goal oriented survivor. She said that
she's ultimately interested in Fashion Journalism as well as Fashion
Styling. I know from your references that you are quite the writer yourself,
and I asked Shanique if I could find someone to give her some feedback on
some journalism exercises if she would be interested and she said that she
definitely would be. She is also really interested in making her own
clothes.

Do you think that there might be an opportunity for her at Sew Green?

Thanks a million. Until soon.

Jana

~ Thank you to . . .

BEGINNERS' CLASS, 7 - 9 pm, Wednesday July 23: Learn to use a sewing
machine, and make a reusable tote bag. Three spots still open. Adults and
teens. $15. Scholarships available. Pre-registration required. Contact Wendy
at [EMAIL PROTECTED], 277-7611.

MEET YOUR MACHINE, 1 - 3 pm, Saturday, July 26: Get better acquainted with
your older sewing machine (from the 1980s all the way back). Bring the
machine and manual, and we'll help you learn to use and care for it. $15.
Scholarships available. Pre-registration required. Contact Wendy at
[EMAIL PROTECTED], 277-7611.

MAKE A PATCHWORK BAG, 6 - 8 pm, Wednesday, July 30: Made from scrap flannel,
the bag features 6-inch patchwork pieces and a braided handle. It's easy and
fun to make. Bring your own 6-inch squares (reused, not purchased new,
please!) or choose from our collection of colors and patterns. Some
experience with machine sewing preferred. $15. Adults and teens.
Scholarships available. Pre-registration required. Contact Wendy at
[EMAIL PROTECTED], 277-7611.

All classes are held at the SewGreen classroom,
Women's Community Building, 100 W Seneca Street, downtown Ithaca.
On a TCAT bus route; free parking evenings and weekends; ADA accessible.

SEW-INS! Noon - 5 pm, Sunday, July 27; and 3 - 8 pm, Monday and Tuesday,
July 28 and 29: Whether you just learned to sew, or have sewn for years,
join us for any portion of a three-day sew-in. We'll be making reusable tote
and grocery bags, duffel bags for Hospicare families, dustcovers for the
SewGreen sewing machines, and -- the most fun -- creative reuse costumes for
two benefactors (and well-loved Ithacans) who are headed for the Burning Man
festival in late August. Bring your own machine or use one of ours. We have
plenty of fabric to reuse. Come for as little or as long as you like. At the
SewGreen classroom, Women's Community Building, 100 W Seneca Street,
downtown Ithaca.

TEACHERS, VOLUNTEERS, MENTORS: SewGreen is recruiting sewing teachers who
can help develop and lead classes in reuse sewing and refashioning. We also
need volunteers to provide one-to-one help at classes and workshops. Other
volunteer opportunities include sorting and folding donated fabric, sewing
reusable bags, helping out at sales and events, data entry, and more. And if
you would like to work one-to-one with a youngster who wants to learn to
sew, SewGreen has started a mentoring program (Sewing Mamas & Papas) in
conjunction with the Learning Web. Contact Wendy, [EMAIL PROTECTED],
277-7611, or come to the Volunteer Open House, 11 am - 4 pm, Wednesday, July
23.
