Hi Denise,

Upstate Energy Solutions, based in Burdette, are good people to call. Their
info is at www.upstateenergysolutions.com. They are experienced with
geothermal as well as high-efficiency conventional heating systems,
photovoltaics, and solar thermal. They are accredited through the NYSERDA
"Home Performance with Energy Star" and photovoltaic programs. We have worked
with them on numerous projects.

Renovus Energy in Ithaca no longer does geothermal installations, but their web
site http://www.renovusenergy.com/geothermal.html offers links to geothermal
contractors they recommend.

Geothermal can make both good environmental and economic sense if you have the
right land base/geology and a suitable house. Whether it makes sense in your
particular case will depend on these factors; a good contractor can help you
weigh the upfront cost and long-term savings against other options.

If you'd like to see some geothermal systems in action and talk to people
living with them, I would recommend checking out the annual Green Buildings
Open House (http://www.nesea.org/buildings/openhouse/), which takes place in
October 4. The 2008 sites have not been listed yet but the web site allows you
to search sites by feature. There are typically a couple geothermal homes on
the tour.

Good luck,
Jon Harrod
