The Sciencenter will be holding a public “Dry-Off” to compare the top 2 hi-efficiency hand dryers from Aug 28 – Sept 5. We are testing them out for possible use in our restrooms and are also inviting area businesses to stop by and make the comparison in case anyone is interested in trying them out (architects, designers, facilities managers, etc.)
These units can save $1-2K per year in paper towel and landfill costs, and at about $1400, the payback is roughly 1-2 years, depending on usage. Electrical use is low (2000 dries costs only $1) They work off 110 V and draw about 1300 W (about half compared with conventional electric hand driers.) and take about 1/3 as much time as regular electric driers. So from a carbon footprint standpoint as well as cost, these units have significant advantages over paper towels.
