8th Annual Ithaca Green Building Fair

Local green building professionals will be on hand to discuss their work
and to answer questions about solar energy, wind power, straw bale
construction, timber framing and more, at the 8th Annual Green Building
Fair, on Sunday August 24th from 10 am to 3 pm at the Ithaca Farmers' Market.

Visitors to the fair can view portfolios of past and current green building
projects undertaken by members of the Ithaca Green Building Alliance, and
can take part in a hands-on exercise on using natural building finishes.

Fair visitors also will be able to pre-register for guided van tours of the
2008 Green Building Open House, a two-day event on October 4th and 5th that
will showcase 27 outstanding local green building sites. Highlights of the
October Open House will include tours of the 2007 Cornell Solar Decathalon
Team entry (now a private home) and the Platinum-LEED Certified Park Center
for Business and Sustainable Enterprise at Ithaca College, designed by
Robert A.M. Stern Architects, as well as 25 other area homes. A detailed
guidebook describing all 27 sites will be available at Sunday's fair for a
$1 suggested donation to cover printing costs. Copies of the guidebook will
be available after 8/24 at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County.

The 8th Annual Green Building Fair is organized by the Ithaca Green
Building Alliance, a non-profit group whose mission is to advance
environmental and community sustainability through building design,
development and construction. Its members include local architects,
interior designers, home-energy auditors, insulation specialists, masonry
heating designers, solar energy specialists, timber framers, green
construction contractors, and craftspeople who build fine furniture and
cabinetry. For more information, please visit www.ithacagreenbuilding.org.
