One thing about the environment that is extremely important to know, but
poorly accepted or even considered, is that there is a limit to the
amount of energy, renewable or finite, that our ecosystems can handle
without often irreparable damage to carrying capacity. Many
environmentalists are not questioning their assumption that heavy solar
and wind energy production and consumption can simply replace fossil
fuels. All energy creates heat, consumes other finite resources and
allows unsustainable development and brute force interventions in
delicate and complex ecosystem processes to continue. Theoretically we
could become drastically more cautious in our energy use and how we use
it, but I see little chance of this happening without fundamental changes
in the policy framework that maintains the present capitalist form of
political economy
