SUNDAY OPEN SEWS
Join us in the SewGreen classroom for stress-reducing "social sewing" using our
machines or yours. Work on your own reuse or refashioning project, help us with
our charity sewing projects for Hospicare, share skills, chat, relax, and have
fun. Walk-in. Free. Noon to 4pm on these dates: Oct 12, Oct 26, Nov 9, Nov 23,
Dec 7.

FABRIC REUSE SALE
This is the big one! Tons of fabulous new-to-you fabric at rummage sale prices,
plus yarn, needlecraft notions, and several restored classic sewing machines.
11am to 3pm, Saturday Oct 18, Women's Community Building. All proceeds support
SewGreen's community programming. VOLUNTEERS ARE ESSENTIAL. Sale volunteers get
first pick; help of two hours or more earns a transferable gift certificate for
a SewGreen class. TIMES: Sale prep will be ongoing from noon to 8pm, Thursday
and Friday, Oct 16 and 17. Sale day help is needed 10am to 4pm. Contact Wendy
to schedule a shift. Good opportunity for students needing to fulfill community
service requirements.

YOUTH SEWING CLUB DEBUTS
Teens asked for it, planned it, and have called it "Fashion UFOs." It's an
open-to-all, non-gender sewing club for teens who like to sew, refashion, and
make cool stuff. Fashion UFOs will meet at the SewGreen classroom on Friday
nights, 6 to 9pm, starting October 17. Check it out. Free and fun! Thanks to
spunky, sparky Katie Sullivan for supervising.

IC STUDENT BOARD SHINES
As part of a sustainable communities course at Ithaca College, four undergrads
have become SewGreen's Student Board of Directors. They have elected officers
and are learning about the governance of non-profit organizations. As a working
board, the students are helping to promote SewGreen's mission and have planned
a reusable bag workshop on campus. Their input and guidance is invaluable and
SewGreen applauds the Student Board's very competent Chair Emily Berg, trusted
Vice-Chair Christopher Braley-Miller, skilled Treasurer Nancy Webster, and
alert and accurate Secretary Tasha Cammarata. Thanks to instructor Elan Shapiro
for the opportunity, and for giving students a way to connect to the local
sustainability scene.

SIGN UP NOW FOR RECRAFT FAIR, DEC 13
SewGreen is hosting a first-ever ReCraft Fair in Ithaca, Saturday, Dec 13, at
the Women's Community Building. As a counter-action to conventional holiday
craft fairs, where (often, not always) unsustainable materials are turned into
unsustainable products that add to household clutter, SewGreen is sponsoring a
greener alternative. Local reuse and redesign artisans who work with
eco-friendly and reused materials are invited to participate. A 10 x 10-foot
booth is $35, which covers a full day of sales, as well as publicity and
promotion. Contact Wendy to reserve your space, [EMAIL PROTECTED],
607-277-7611. Last day to register is Oct 30.

VOLUNTEERS, SEWING TEACHERS, & BOARD MEMBERS INVITED
SewGreen's volunteer opportunities include helping out at events and classes,
sorting fabric, helping with the big sale, sewing charity projects, supervising
open sews, picking up donated materials, keyboarding, and generally helping the
coordinator keep her head above water. Sewing teachers are also needed.
Experience is great, but if you sew well and enjoy helping others, talk to us.
Stipends are available. Prospective advisory and operations board members are
invited to contact us to learn more about roles. We are a new organization.
Contributions of time, talent, and expertise will help us grow and plan for a
sustainable future.
